Q & A With Ward 1 Candidate Gilles Longtin

1.) Please tell me a little about yourself -

Born in Ottawa, raised in Woodstock, relocated to attend Fanshawe in the early 80’s moved around most of south western and northern Ontario. Relocated back to London in the late 90’s. Been employed in retail, food services, customer service, manufacturing, health care and social services. Over the last 20 years been employed as an Employment Counsellor assisting people in job search and discovering their skills. On a personal side, Married, three great step-children, I am a fairly recent Grandfather. I live and work in Glen Cairn.

2) What is your inspiration and motivation for running for city council?

I am running for Ward 1 City Councilor because I am looking to bring more exposure and the positive aspects of living in Ward 1. For years ward 1 has had a label placed on it as a least then desirable area to live or do business as well as being “east of Adelaide”. I am tired of this, as there are many great people who live and have business in Ward 1. Far to many times Ward 1 is overlooked, and funds go into the more popular wards. I live and work in Ward 1 and interact with the community on a daily basis. I see the results of unemployment and poverty and lack of social programs in my area. I would like to change this as well as the attitudes towards Ward 1.

3) What issues will your campaign be focusing on?Attracting new business, unemployment, social programs and changing attitudes
4) Will you be using a website, blog or social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter to promote your campaign?Yes-currently under construction
5) I am very underwhelmed by the candidates running in Ward 1. How do you plan to earn my vote?I would hope my track record working in the community will speak and earn votes. I am aware of issues facing my ward, I speak up when I see injustice and I am not afraid to bring attention to matters no one else seems to care about.
